Morning Prayer at SKS
December 7, 2016
Dear St. Katharine of Siena School Families,
I know how busy we are all are at the this time of year. I 'll keep this blog short. Here's some reminders.
1. Report Cards for First Trimester will be given out next Tuesday /Wednesday. You should sign the envelope where the parent signature space is and keep the report card. A letter from me will accompany the report card that explains the report cards. I have preached for years about the importance of the left side of the report card for grades 1 -8. A student's attitude and effort are far more important than a student's grades. Praise effort, persistence, resilience, and hard work; not intelligence.
2. I am sharing with you a chart (see below) that I have shared with the faculty regarding the Fixed Mindset vs The Growth Mindset. I have written about this topic previously. It's at the forefront of education these days. Children (and adults too) often experience a Fixed Mindset. When they experience frustration, use the terminology on the the right side of the chart to turn it into a Growth Mindset. Copy this. This is refrigerator material right next to the picture of the dog and your chore list! It's good teaching and good parenting. Change the mindset, which changes the attitude, which changes the results!
Find five minutes each day in this Advent Season, as you prepare for Christmas, to reflect on our many blessings as a school community.
Take care,
Bud
