Dear St. Katharine of Siena School Parents,
Here we are in the first full week of March and the season of Lent.
Lent
At the school mass this
past Ash Wednesday, Msgr. Brouwers made some excellent points about
what we can and should do for this Lenten season:
* We can all do better. We can all shape up a little more spiritually.
* Giving up a favorite treat is not a bad idea for Lent, however
what God might like even better is for us to do
something that involves our relationship with Him or those around us. For
example, children can give
up some TV time, computer games, or texting time and spend
more quiet time in prayer. Adults can model the actions and do the same: Less
messaging and Facebook, more quiet time with God.
* If as a family, the commitment to Sunday Mass has not been what it could be, maybe a recommitment to Mass would be a great Lenten idea.
* Lent's a great time to reconnect with Him. Ask for forgiveness
to anyone we may have hurt and be more
forgiving to those around us.
* Come join us on the following days that we have Stations of the Cross with the students. We’d love to have you join us. The dates are: 3/8, 3/14, 3/30, all at 1:45 (KG-3 in the cafeteria and 4-8 in church.). The 8th Grade will present Living Stations on 4/7 at 1:30 (dress rehearsal) and 7 pm at in church. This is a wonderful prayerful experience.
* Ever hear of
Matthew Kelly. He's written several best-selling books on Catholicism. You can sign up for his
daily reflections at bestlentever.com He's very good in offering some
short quicks and insightful reflections.
The second trimester ends this Friday, March 7. Encourage your children to keep their academics a priority as we move into the last trimester of the school year. Reports cards for the 2nd trimester will be given on March 21st. Terra Nova Tests will be given on March 16 ( In View Test for grades 3 -8 only ) and the mornings of the entire next week. March 20 -24).
Congrats to our winter sports teams, both players and coaches. Our 5th/ 6th Boys A, 5th/6th Girls B, and 7th /8th Girls B won championships. Other teams competed very well and got to the finals. However, it's not just about how many games a team wins. CYO sports provides a great avenue for our children to experience and learn important traits such as teamwork, sacrifice, sportsmanship, and resilience that are all valuable life lessons. How we teach our players to handle situations: Winning with humility and losing with dignity is a huge part of the CYO experience.
Thanks to Karl Werner and many volunteers who worked hard last week for the Pinewood Derby. There was lots of excitement throughout and it was a close race with only hundredths of seconds separating cars.
Congratulations to the
top 5 finishers:
